Funded Traineeship - Press and Information Section, EU Delegation to Australia

Overview

This traineeship opportunity is designed for recent graduates interested in international relations and understanding the functioning of a diplomatic mission, particularly how the EU Delegation advocates EU interests and values in Australia. The traineeship spans six months, starting tentatively in November 2026, within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Australia.

Main Responsibilities

• Conduct research and provide reports on Australia’s domestic and foreign policy to the EU Headquarters.
• Assist in organizing public diplomacy initiatives, support social media communications, and prepare speeches for the Head of Delegation.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of visits, missions, and meetings, including preparing briefing materials and drafting minutes.
• Attend various meetings, seminars, conferences, and events in Australia and prepare reports on them.
• Support daily operations of the Political, Press and Information Section.
• Prepare daily press reviews and weekly reports for the Delegation.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proficiency in English is mandatory; knowledge of an additional EU or regional language is advantageous.
• University degree in international relations, political science, diplomacy, or related disciplines.
• Applicants must have less than one year of professional experience after graduation at the time of signing the traineeship agreement; prior internships, student jobs, or volunteer work are not counted as professional experience.

Additional Information

• Selected trainees receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses.
• All expenses concerning travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation must be managed by the trainee.
• The traineeship complies with both local Australian legislation and the candidate's country of origin laws.
• EU citizens must provide proof of coverage for pandemic risks and repatriation costs.
• They must obtain the appropriate entrance visa or temporary residence permit; specifically, a Training Visa (Subclass 407) is required for Australia.
