Funded Traineeship for Young Graduates at the EU Delegation to Singapore - PPI Section

Overview

This funded traineeship is available for a young graduate interested in international relations and in gaining first-hand exposure to how an EU diplomatic mission works. The placement is with the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section of the EU Delegation to Singapore and may last for up to 6 months, with a planned start in June 2026.

The PPI Section monitors political and security developments in Singapore and the wider region, communicates EU positions and policy updates, and works on media relations and public diplomacy.

Main duties

• Support reporting on developments in Singapore, the surrounding region, and Singapore’s relations with foreign partners.
• Help implement EU bilateral cooperation agreements with Singapore and take part in related outreach activities.
• Carry out research and prepare briefing/background notes on policy topics.
• Assist with visits by senior EU officials, meetings, and public diplomacy events organised by or at the Delegation.
• Attend conferences, seminars, and lectures, then summarize relevant political, security, and related developments in Singapore and the region.
• Prepare meeting minutes and support the drafting of reports.
• Help compile the Delegation’s daily press review.
• Assist with the Delegation’s social media presence, especially on X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Profile and qualifications

• Good knowledge of EU institutions and policies.
• Strong motivation to learn, willingness to work in a team, and a careful eye for detail.
• Fluent English.
• Ability to use social media is considered an advantage.
• Applicants must have less than one year of professional experience after graduation by the time the traineeship agreement is signed. Experience gained through student jobs, volunteering, or other traineeships during university or after graduation does not count as professional experience.

Preferred background

• Academic background or demonstrated capability in political science, social science, or international relations.
• Familiarity with Singapore, ASEAN countries, and the Indo-Pacific region.
• Basic understanding of international trade and economic affairs.
• Legal or economics background is an added advantage.

Applicants must send a detailed standard Europass CV, a cover letter explaining their interest in an EU traineeship, and the completed application form by email to DELEGATION-SINGAPORE-INTERNSHIPS@eeas.europa.eu. The email subject line must read: 2026 Funded Traineeship - EU Delegation to Singapore.

CVs submitted in any format other than Europass will not be accepted. Applicants are also expected to review the dedicated website and the general eligibility rules for paid traineeships under Article 8 of Decision ADMIN(2017)28.

Funding and conditions

The selected trainee will receive a monthly grant intended to help cover living expenses. All other costs, including travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation, must be paid by the trainee.

Only eligible applications will be considered. After review of all submissions, shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview, and unsuccessful applicants will be informed by email. If the selected candidate cannot provide the required documents, the application will be rejected.

The traineeship may only be offered in line with local law and the law of the candidate’s country of origin.

Requirements for EU Member State citizens

• Proof of coverage against pandemic-related risks and repatriation costs must be provided.
• Where applicable, a valid entry visa and/or temporary residence permit must be held in accordance with the traineeship agreement, the duration of the placement, and local legal requirements.
