Role overview
This role involves assessing GCSE Statistics (2017 Specification) candidate responses against a predefined marking scheme while following recognition rules and examination protocols. Most marking is completed digitally through ePEN and can be carried out from home, although a small number of subjects are still assessed using paper scripts sent by post. A strong command of the subject is essential to apply the mark scheme accurately, and each examiner is assigned a set number of scripts to review.
Responsibilities
- Mark responses with accuracy and consistency so that overall standards remain stable.
- Send required samples to the Team Leader at the scheduled times.
- Complete marking milestones within the required timelines.
- Finish all assigned administrative tasks exactly as instructed.
Experience and qualifications
- At least one academic year of teaching experience is required.
- This experience must have been gained within the last 8 years.
- The experience must be in the relevant qualification subject.
- The teaching experience must have been obtained after becoming qualified as a teacher.
- A degree or an equivalent qualification is required.
- The applicant must be a qualified teacher.
Competencies
- Ability to stay effective and composed when working under pressure.
- Strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent subject expertise to apply the marking scheme correctly.
Additional information
The marking window runs from May to July. Training for examiner duties is scheduled between May and June.
