Job description
Role overview
As an examiner for GCSE Design & Technology (2017 Specification), you will assess student responses against a fixed mark scheme while following all recognition requirements and exam procedures. Most marking is completed online through ePEN, which can be done from home, although some subjects are still assessed using paper scripts delivered by post. Strong subject expertise is essential so that the mark scheme can be applied correctly. Each examiner is assigned a specific batch of scripts.
Responsibilities
- Assess responses carefully and consistently so that marking standards remain uniform.
- Send sample scripts to the Team Leader at the required times.
- Keep to all marking milestones and deadlines.
- Complete every administrative task exactly as instructed.
Experience and qualifications
- At least one academic year of teaching experience is required, gained within the last 8 years.
- The teaching experience must be in the same subject area as the qualification being marked.
- The experience must have been obtained after becoming a qualified teacher.
- A degree, or an equivalent qualification, is required.
- You must be a qualified teacher.
Competencies
- Ability to remain effective when working under pressure.
- Strong time management and deadline adherence.
- Excellent command of the subject area to support accurate use of the mark scheme.
Additional information
The marking window runs from May to July. Examiner training is scheduled between May and June.
