Position Overview

We seek a technically skilled and customer-focused Engineering Manager to lead AI application development for Saudi governmental organizations. This multifaceted role combines engineering leadership, AI/ML solution delivery, and direct interaction with clients, requiring proficiency in presenting to government stakeholders as well as software architecture and coding.

As a founding figure in our regional team, you will influence how Scale AI partners in premier public sector AI projects across the Gulf region. This is a fast-paced, high-impact opportunity to shape AI's future in government services.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee an engineering team tasked with delivering AI-driven applications for Saudi Arabian government clients, ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.
• Act as the primary technical liaison for Saudi government officials, effectively communicating complex engineering concepts in understandable terms for non-technical audiences.
• Design, develop, and refine full-stack AI applications, covering data pipelines, ML model integrations, APIs, and frontend interfaces.
• Create and deploy AI/ML capabilities such as LLM-powered features, AI agents, and intelligent automation tailored to governmental needs.
• Develop and manage robust API integrations linking Scale's platform with government systems and third-party technologies.
• Collaborate with product management, marketing, and government teams to clarify requirements, define solutions, and oversee delivery from conception to production.
• Represent Scale in workshops, demos, and executive briefings with Saudi government partners.
• Handle multiple product lifecycle streams simultaneously, balancing rapid delivery with quality assurance.
• Mentor and inspire engineering staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and customer orientation.
• Shape team culture, engineering practices, and industry standards as a senior leader within the Global Public Sector organization.

Candidate Profile

• Six or more years of software engineering experience, emphasizing AI/ML development and full-stack expertise.
• At least three years in engineering leadership roles with proven success managing technical teams.
• Hands-on background in building, training, tuning, and deploying machine learning models and large language model applications in production environments.
• Robust full-stack engineering skills spanning backend services, APIs, data processing, and user interfaces.
• Experience in client-facing engineering roles, especially with government or enterprise clients, including leading technical discussions and earning non-technical stakeholder trust.
• Expertise designing and scaling APIs, including RESTful and AI/ML-specific services.
• Ability to translate complex government business needs into scalable engineering solutions.
• A proven record of delivering high-quality features rapidly within ambiguous, dynamic environments.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with adaptability to diverse audiences.
• A desire to work in a fast-moving, impactful setting where output directly benefits citizens.
• Prior experience working in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) area is highly valued; Arabic fluency is an advantage.
