About the organization

Export Development Canada (EDC) helps Canadian businesses grow internationally by offering financial solutions and practical expertise that reduce risk, open access to new markets, and support trade-led impact in Canada and beyond.

EDC is hiring a permanent Director, Digital Technology & Advanced Manufacturing to help shape and drive sector strategy for digital technology and advanced manufacturing. This leadership role sits within the Sectors and International Advisory Team in the Mid-Market Group and is focused on creating export and investment opportunities for Canadian companies through coordinated internal and external collaboration.

The successful candidate will use deep industry knowledge, a strong business development mindset, a wide professional network, and people leadership skills to build and execute sector plans. The role also supports the Canadian exporter side of the Business Connection Program and other strategic initiatives that help EDC teams generate results in capital deployment, market penetration, and network expansion.

Compensation and employment details

This is a permanent full-time position. The salary band for this director-level role is typically between 129,928 and 190,000 CAD per year, depending on qualifications and experience, plus a performance-based incentive.

Work location and setup

EDC works in a hybrid model, with a current expectation of three in-office days each week, though this may change. The role may be based at EDC headquarters in Ottawa or from one of its Community Hubs in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver. Relocation support may be available for candidates who meet the stated criteria.

What you will do

You will lead sector engagement for digital technology and advanced manufacturing, develop strategy, and coordinate execution across a broad network of practitioners, program leads, and subject matter experts. You will also guide direct reports and influence cross-functional teams to improve outcomes for Canadian exporters.

Responsibilities

  • Create and roll out EDC’s overall strategy for digital and advanced manufacturing sector engagement, with a focus on measurable results such as more customers served and more business enabled.
  • Provide both direct and informal leadership to your team members and to a wider group of designated subject matter experts and program practitioners.
  • Encourage knowledge-sharing and insight generation through virtual communities of practice that help sector specialists increase their impact.
  • Coordinate and manage partnership-based delivery models that support business priorities.
  • Develop tools, processes, and approaches that advance Mid-Market goals around capital deployment, connections, and market penetration, including a strong referral framework.
  • Oversee continued delivery of the Canadian exporter component of the Business Connection Program.
  • Promote innovation and ongoing improvement, make better use of available capacity, and identify synergies across Sectors and International Advisory and other teams.

Candidate profile

EDC is looking for an experienced leader with strong digital technology or advanced manufacturing business development experience, proven leadership ability, and the capacity to work in a matrixed environment. The role also requires fluency in both official languages.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree, or an equivalent professional designation, in a relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of combined experience in business development and technical advisory work focused on digital technology, advanced technologies, or advanced manufacturing.
  • A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of sales and/or account management best practices.
  • A well-established global professional network and strong technical and commercial understanding gained through directly relevant work.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a matrix organization and lead virtual teams through influence.
  • Bilingual capability in English and French, with at least B2 speaking proficiency.
  • Ability to meet government security screening requirements.

Preferred strengths

Applicants will stand out if they understand EDC’s products, services, and programs, and if they have technical knowledge of supply chains developed through direct experience in the Canadian exporter ecosystem.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to applicants who satisfy all essential requirements, submit their applications by the closing date, and are legally able to work in Canada at the time of application. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Candidates must also pass the required security screening.
