Job description

About the organization

Export Development Canada (EDC) helps Canadian companies grow internationally by providing financing, risk management solutions, and market expertise. As a Crown corporation, EDC’s work supports trade-led growth and aims to create positive outcomes for Canada and global markets.

Role overview

EDC is hiring a permanent Director, Digital Technology & Advanced Manufacturing to join the Sectors and International Advisory team within the Mid-Market Group. This leadership role is centered on shaping and executing sector strategy, building export opportunities for Canadian businesses, and coordinating work across internal experts and external partners. The position relies on strong industry knowledge, a broad professional network, and the ability to influence across a matrixed organization.

The Director will guide a multi-program approach for digital technology and advanced manufacturing, support Canadian exporter engagement through the Business Connection Program, and help other EDC teams drive outcomes in capital deployment, market reach, and network building.

What the job involves

  • Design and roll out EDC’s overall strategy for engagement in digital technology and advanced manufacturing, with outcomes tied to customer reach and business facilitation.
  • Lead both direct team members and cross-functional subject matter experts through formal and informal leadership.
  • Promote knowledge sharing through virtual communities of practice that strengthen sector-focused delivery.
  • Coordinate partnership-based delivery models that advance team priorities.
  • Create tools and methods that support shared Mid-Market goals, including capital deployment, market access, referrals, and connection-building.
  • Oversee the ongoing delivery of the Canadian exporter component of the Business Connection Program.
  • Champion innovation, operational improvement, and better use of capacity while finding synergies with other teams across EDC.

Background and experience needed

  • A university degree at the undergraduate or graduate level, or an equivalent professional designation, in a relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of combined experience in business development and technical advisory work related to digital technology, advanced technologies, or advanced manufacturing.
  • A minimum of 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of sales and account management practices.
  • A substantial global network, along with solid technical and commercial knowledge gained through directly relevant business activity.
  • Demonstrated success in a matrix environment and in leading virtual teams through influence and collaboration.
  • Bilingual ability in English and French, with at least B2 speaking proficiency in both official languages.

What would help you stand out

  • Familiarity with EDC’s products, services, and programs.
  • Hands-on knowledge of different supply chains gained through work within the Canadian exporter ecosystem.

Work location and schedule

EDC follows a hybrid model, and employees are currently expected to work in the office three days each week, although this may change. This role may be based at EDC headquarters in Ottawa or at one of the Community Hubs in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver. Relocation assistance may be offered to candidates who qualify.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this position is approximately CAD 129,928 to CAD 190,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience, and it includes a performance-based incentive. EDC also offers a comprehensive benefits package, work-life balance support, hybrid work options, 3 to 4 weeks of paid vacation, a corporate closure period, summer early Fridays, and no-meeting Fridays. Employees can also access learning and development programs, language training, wellness resources, mental health support, fitness programs, and volunteer opportunities.

Employment conditions and additional information

This is a permanent full-time role. The application deadline is June 25, 2026. EDC gives preference to applicants who are legally entitled to work in Canada at the time they apply, specifically Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Candidates must also meet government security screening requirements.

EDC is committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The organization encourages applications from women, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
