About the organization
Export Development Canada (EDC) supports Canadian companies as they expand into international markets. As a Crown corporation focused on development finance, EDC provides financial solutions and expert guidance that help businesses manage risk, enter new markets, and grow globally.
Role overview
EDC is seeking a permanent Director for Digital Technology & Advanced Manufacturing within the Sectors and International Advisory team, part of the Mid-Market Group. In this leadership role, you will shape and execute sector strategies, strengthen Canadian exporter engagement, and help generate new business opportunities for Canadian companies through direct and indirect team impact.
The role calls for strong industry knowledge, an established professional network, and the ability to collaborate across functions. You will work closely with subject matter experts, program leads, and practitioners to drive results in capital deployment, market access, and relationship building.
Compensation
This position is assigned to Dir Business Development 20. The salary range is typically from CAD 129,928 to CAD 190,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications, and includes a performance-based incentive.
Work location and schedule
EDC follows a hybrid model with a current expectation of three in-office days each week, though this may change. The job may be based at headquarters in Ottawa or at a Community Hub in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver. Relocation support may be offered to candidates who meet the eligibility requirements.
Key responsibilities
You will lead the creation and execution of EDC’s strategy for digital technology and advanced manufacturing sector engagement. The role also includes guiding direct reports, working with a broad network of internal specialists, and helping improve how EDC delivers support to exporters.
- Design and roll out EDC’s sector strategy for digital and advanced manufacturing engagement, with a focus on measurable business outcomes.
- Lead both direct reports and cross-functional subject matter experts, formally and informally.
- Encourage knowledge sharing through communities of practice that help sector practitioners improve their impact.
- Oversee partnership-based delivery to advance strategic priorities.
- Create tools and methods that support capital deployment, connections, and market penetration goals, including referral processes.
- Steer the Canadian exporter side of the Business Connection Program.
- Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and better use of capacity while identifying synergies across teams.
What you need to bring
- A university degree at the undergraduate or graduate level, or an equivalent professional designation, in a relevant field.
- At least 10 years of combined experience in business development and technical advisory work related to digital technology, advanced technologies, or advanced manufacturing.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience.
- Strong command of sales and/or account management best practices.
- A well-established global network along with strong technical and commercial understanding developed through relevant hands-on work.
- Experience working in a matrix organization and leading virtual teams through strong influencing skills.
- Bilingual capability in English and French, with at least B2 speaking proficiency in both official languages.
Preferred strengths
- Knowledge of EDC’s products, services, and programs.
- Practical understanding of supply chains gained through direct work in the Canadian exporter ecosystem.
Eligibility and hiring conditions
EDC follows fair employment practices. Preference will be given to candidates who are legally able to work in Canada at the time of application, specifically Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must also meet the required government security screening standards. Only candidates who satisfy all essential requirements and apply by the closing date will be considered.
Why join EDC
EDC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, supports work-life balance, and provides the opportunity to contribute to Canada’s global trade success. The organization also emphasizes inclusion, learning, and employee well-being.
- Hybrid work arrangements, plus 3 to 4 weeks of paid vacation, a corporate closure period, summer early Fridays, and no-meeting Fridays.
- Ongoing professional development through training programs, workshops, and language learning.
- A diverse and inclusive environment grounded in employment equity and respect for varied backgrounds and perspectives.
- Wellness support, including mental health resources and fitness programs.
- Opportunities to volunteer and participate in community-focused social responsibility initiatives.
