Job description

About the Opportunity

Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience (HWFR) team focuses on managing, planning, and enhancing the region's stormwater systems in partnership with iwi and communities, aiming for a future-proof and sustainable water environment in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Internship Overview

This is a paid 12-week summer internship running from 23 November 2026 to 19 February 2027, compensating interns at the Living Wage rate of $29.90 per hour. Interns will work on impactful projects that support services and initiatives to improve stormwater infrastructure and water quality outcomes for Auckland residents.

Roles and Responsibilities

Interns join either the Customer Support or Stakeholder Engagement team, contributing directly to community interaction and awareness programs. Customer Support interns respond to inquiries and complaints related to the public stormwater network, waterways, floodplains, and harbours, requiring strong original writing abilities and familiarity with basic Te Reo Māori. Stakeholder Engagement interns create content for printed and digital platforms, including flood mapping tools, help educate the public, assist in planning and communications for projects, and participate in community events and direct Aucklander engagement.

Candidate Profile

We seek proactive and enthusiastic individuals passionate about environmental sustainability with excellent communication and writing skills tailored for diverse audiences. Applicants should enjoy working collaboratively, be ready to learn from experienced professionals, and have some background or interest in digital content creation, customer databases, or social media. Confidence in using Te Reo Māori in everyday communication is advantageous.
