Community Support Worker - Residential - North Auckland

Role overview

This is a permanent relief position for a Community Support Worker in a residential setting, based in Northshore/North Auckland. The role is for 32 hours per week and is primarily intended to provide leave cover as needed. The hourly pay range is $23.97 to $29.68.

What the role involves

You will support one person, or sometimes a small group, in a residential environment. The exact tasks will vary depending on the individual’s needs and priorities.

• Assist with everyday living tasks and personal care when required.
• Encourage and support participation in the community, including appointments, social outings, work, or education.
• Communicate respectfully and effectively with the person supported, their whānau/family, and your colleagues.
• Keep appropriate professional boundaries and remain composed when situations become difficult.

Skills and experience needed

• A respectful, empathetic approach to supporting people with disabilities.
• Motivation and energy to help people stay active and engaged in their surroundings.
• The ability to stay calm and help others de-escalate stressful situations.
• Good judgement, resilience, and the ability to maintain safe boundaries.
• Confidence in explaining information clearly and working through problems together.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to assist with personal care and support the development of daily living skills.

What you need to bring

• Either already hold, or be willing to work toward, a Community Support Worker Level 3 qualification; support to achieve this is available while employed.
• Experience supporting people with disabilities and/or mental health needs is an advantage, but it is not essential.
• A reliable work ethic and genuine commitment to helping others.
• A full New Zealand driver’s licence.
• The ability to pass a New Zealand Police check.
• Basic computer literacy, including use of Word and email.

Immigration and visa requirements

• Applicants who are not New Zealand residents must meet Immigration New Zealand Skill Level 3 requirements.
• This may mean having at least 3 years of paid work in the care workforce at or above the care workforce wage rate, or holding a relevant NZQCF qualification such as Level 4 for a Skill Level 3 role, or a diploma for a Skill Level 2 role.
• Anyone holding a work visa should obtain independent advice from a licensed immigration adviser before applying, to confirm they meet INZ eligibility rules.

Working pattern and availability

This is a permanent part-time role that mainly covers staff leave. While 64 hours per fortnight are guaranteed, the actual days and times can change from week to week based on operational needs and available work. The role may involve all shifts, including day, afternoon, evening, overnight, and Saturday/Sunday shifts.
