Job description
Role overview
This role is based at Wattisham, Suffolk, IP7 7RA, and is to be carried out entirely on site. It is advertised as a 37-hour-per-week position. The organisation promotes smarter ways of working, using a blend of flexible working practices, digital tools, and modern workspaces where appropriate, while still expecting you to be present where you can have the greatest impact for your team and the wider organisation.
Wattisham Flying Station is the main operating base for the Army’s attack helicopter capability and sits within Joint Aviation Command, a quad-service formation that brings together battlefield military helicopters from across the British Armed Forces for command and coordination. The station is a major airfield and acts as the home base for elements of 1 Aviation Brigade Attack.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing Defence Accommodation Stores held by the station and for carrying out Building Custodian duties across the buildings within the Station Quartermaster’s area of responsibility. Full training will be provided for any required and desirable courses, supporting your development in the role.
What the job involves
The Station Quartermaster’s Support Officer will manage and account for all Defence Accommodation Stores, keeping records accurate, current, and compliant through quarterly checks. In addition, the post holder will handle Building Custodian duties across the relevant department areas.
- Keep all Defence Accommodation Stores accounts maintained and accurate.
- Perform Building Custodian tasks, including reporting faults.
- Handle associated administration, such as booking, handover, and takeover of the station minibus, and issuing Authority to Use documents.
- Complete waste declarations.
- Arrange and coordinate room cleans for transit accommodation.
- Provide cover for the AO Stores role when needed, including ordering via the Management of Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) and Contracting, Purchasing and Finance systems.
- Attend meetings on behalf of the Station Quartermaster when required.
- Carry out general administrative duties.
Training and development are part of the offer, including support toward mandatory and desirable courses, and the opportunity to build skills for future progression. The role may also include working toward professional body membership and/or a modern apprenticeship.
What we are looking for
You should be able to work well with a wide range of people and build strong working relationships across the station. Clear communication is essential, as you will be expected to give advice, guidance, and direction to others across different levels and grades.
The role suits someone confident working both independently and as part of a team, with the initiative to act quickly and make practical decisions when needed. Good IT and computer skills are also important.
Selection and assessment
The recruitment process follows Success Profiles and will assess both behaviours and experience. At application stage, your CV will be reviewed, along with evidence of Working Together and Changing & Improving. If a large number of applications are received, the first sift will focus on Working Together.
At interview, you will be assessed on Making Effective Decisions, Communicating & Influencing, and Working Together. Interviews are expected to take place in person, and sifting is planned within 7 days of the closing date, subject to business needs.
The role is open to candidates who meet the nationality and security requirements. A criminal record check and security check are required, along with baseline personnel security standard checks for people working with government assets. Skilled worker visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
