About the Role and Location
This HR Administrator position is located at Army Headquarters Marlborough Lines in Monxton, Andover, Hampshire (SP11 8HT), United Kingdom. The role supports the Army Headquarters, Field Army, and multiple lodger units by managing a variety of administrative and HR functions related to military personnel. The position entails working onsite five days a week, reflecting the nature of the role and its responsibilities.
Job Overview
As a core member of the Andover Support Unit, you will provide essential Human Resources support for military personnel, including onboarding, departure processes, the management of allowances, customer salary documentation, and reception duties offering face-to-face assistance. You will operate within a diverse and inclusive working environment that values individuality and teamwork and promotes flexible working practices and digital tools to sustain work-life balance. The standard workweek is 37 hours.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide frontline support and advice to military personnel at the reception desk.
- Coordinate MS Teams meetings with Army Headquarters military members.
- Ensure arrivals packs are completed accurately and related allowance documentation is submitted.
- Assist service members in maintaining their personal records on the Joint Personnel Administration (JPA) system, including an overview of application fields.
- Track and update personnel status across service separations, operations, courses, and meetings; manage start/stop and amendment requests for PAX insurance applications.
- Handle changes to bank details including new account information.
- Issue NATO Travel Orders and maintain service identity cards and ID discs.
- Update retrospective records such as leave, sick leave, and compassionate absences.
- Dispatch documentation during posting movements.
- Process deductions from JPA pay accounts for railcards and clothing or barracks damages.
- Assess eligibility and process payments for Maternity Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), and Armed Forces Occupational-Maternity Scheme (AFMOS).
- Support with I Expenses submissions.
- Issue and process paperwork for the Yearly Bonus payment on JPA when applicable criteria are fulfilled.
- Record updates for career courses and qualifications, such as degrees, on JPA upon certificate receipt.
Candidate Profile and Skills
Essential Skills include excellent oral and written communication with varied military ranks, strong organizational and time management capabilities, ability to work autonomously, excellent problem-solving skills, customer-focus orientation, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Desirable Qualifications include prior experience in military HR or related military administrative roles and business administration qualifications.
Training and Behavioural Expectations
You will receive full training and mentorship. Behavioural assessments focus on delivering quality service, effective communication and influencing skills, sound decision making, and collaborative teamwork.
Salary and Benefits
The role offers a base salary of £27,866 per annum, with an additional £8,072 contributed by the Ministry of Defence towards a defined benefit pension scheme. Benefits include:

Additional Information
This position does not provide relocation expenses. New external recruits are subject to a six-month probationary period. Travel expenses for interview attendance will not be reimbursed. Ongoing pay allowance reviews may impact entitlement changes.
