Job description
Role overview
The Risk team builds and runs the processes used to identify, assess, and control events that could negatively affect the firm. Team members handle core day-to-day risk activities, contribute to major initiatives, and help strengthen the overall risk framework. Success in this role depends on close coordination with senior management, business teams, control functions, and technology partners.
Business unit overview
Credit Risk manages the firm's credit exposure to trading and lending counterparties. The team applies deep expertise in credit, finance, and risk analysis to keep exposure within the firm's risk appetite. Because the function works across many parts of the organization, it offers broad exposure to financial products, internal processes, and cross-functional collaboration.
What you'll do
- Assess asset-based financing transactions, including loans backed by commercial real estate mortgages, auto or loan portfolio warehousing, and similar collateral structures; review deals, take part in approval discussions, and help determine risk appetite.
- Analyze the creditworthiness and financial health of borrowers and counterparties in the REIT and corporate real estate space using both numerical and qualitative methods.
- Evaluate derivative and funding transactions, making sure documentation is appropriate and that risk protections are in place to reduce default exposure and potential losses.
- Spot meaningful trends in performance or industry conditions and escalate them to senior colleagues with recommended next steps.
- Track counterparty performance in the portfolio, including covenant compliance and comparisons against budget or underwriting assumptions.
- Assist senior Credit Risk leaders with analysis, reports, and presentation materials.
- Work with global Risk teams and partner functions such as Asset & Wealth Management, Global Banking & Markets, Controllers, Legal, and Operations.
Skills and experience
The position is suited to candidates with a bachelor's degree and around 1 to 3 years of relevant experience. The ideal person is eager to learn, comfortable in a fast-moving team environment, and genuinely interested in finance, capital markets, and economic trends. Prior exposure to credit risk, equity markets, structured finance, or commercial real estate lending is helpful. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational abilities are essential, along with attention to detail, curiosity, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to learn quickly. The role also calls for someone who works well in teams across regions and can manage several assignments at the same time.
About the company
The firm is a leading global investment banking, securities, and investment management organization founded in 1869 and headquartered in New York, with offices across the world. It emphasizes professional growth, inclusion, and access to learning through training, development programs, networks, benefits, wellness resources, financial support, and mindfulness offerings.
Equal opportunity and accommodations
The employer provides reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities or special needs during the hiring process. It is also an equal opportunity employer and considers applicants without regard to protected characteristics such as gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, or minority status.
