Job description

About the Position

Northeast State Community College invites applications to establish a pool of qualified adjunct faculty candidates set to teach in upcoming semesters. These adjunct faculty roles are temporary, contracted on a semester-to-semester basis, and availability varies. Teaching assignments may include daytime, evening, traditional, high school dual enrollment, or Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. Instructors may be required to teach at any of the institution's campuses located in Blountville, Elizabethton, Gray, or Kingsport, with travel responsibilities unless otherwise stated. This role is primarily on-site, and online-only applicants are not considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction according to semester schedules.
  • Adhere to Tennessee Board of Regents and college policies and regulations.
  • Exhibit strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Incorporate technology into teaching as recommended; prior computer knowledge is preferred.
  • Remain compliant with FERPA privacy standards.
  • Maintain accurate records using the student information system for attendance and grading.
  • Complete and submit required surveys and evaluations promptly.
  • Report any inability to conduct scheduled classes to appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Respond to D2L and institutional emails within 48 hours.
  • Meet deadlines for all tasks and assignments.
  • Complete required Title IX, Title VI, and other relevant trainings.
  • Uphold professional ethics and conduct standards.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications by Discipline

Applicants should refer to the specific credential requirements for their teaching discipline, which generally require master's or doctoral degrees with relevant concentrations or appropriate certifications/licensure for applied fields. Numerous high-demand subjects are indicated with an asterisk, emphasizing urgent need areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Criminal Justice, English, Mathematics, Nursing, Welding, and Cyber Defense, among others. Dual Enrollment teaching opportunities at local high schools are available in selected fields, with preference noted in the cover letter.

Compensation

Typically, adjunct faculty are compensated at $620 per credit hour.
