Analytical and Materials Scientist

Role Overview

An opportunity is available for an Analytical and Materials Scientist to join the Analytical Control & Development team in Sandwich, UK. The position supports the creation of innovative respiratory and other medicinal products from early-stage formulation through clinical studies and product registration.

This laboratory-based role is focused on generating reliable analytical data and scientific insight to help advance new medicines while upholding strong standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out analytical testing that supports product development, clinical study work, and regulatory documentation.
• Run experiments that build understanding in analytical and materials science and support method development and formulation work.
• Perform analyses linked to product stability, development, and scale-up activities.
• Review and interpret data, identify irregularities, and work with supervisors to investigate issues when required.
• Keep laboratory records accurate, complete, and compliant with data integrity and good documentation practices.
• Assist with wider project delivery tasks such as laboratory housekeeping, ordering supplies, and arranging sample shipments.
• Follow all applicable policies and procedures, including EHS, GMP, GCP, quality, and compliance requirements.
• Take on additional duties that align with the scope and level of the position.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is proactive, meticulous, and genuinely motivated by lab-based scientific work.

Required Experience and Skills

• Scientific A Levels, BTEC Level 3, a comparable qualification, or equivalent hands-on practical experience.
• Ability to plan and organise work, follow analytical methods, and produce high-quality results within deadlines.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well in a laboratory team.
• Basic understanding of chemistry principles.
• Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Clear written and spoken communication skills.
• Strong interest in laboratory science and practical lab work.
• At least 1 year of industry experience, including placement or work experience.

Desirable Qualification

A bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field such as Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Forensics, or equivalent experience, would be an advantage.
