Role overview
This position supports the Volunteer Management Manager and the Head of Department in coordinating the Partnerships, Communications and Fundraising team’s work. The emphasis is on improving volunteer management, while also contributing to fundraising, communications, events, and other operational priorities that support the organisation’s strategic goals.
The role works across volunteer management, fundraising, media and communications, and additional assigned projects, with a focus on strengthening systems, workflows, and execution quality.
Because the role interacts with senior leaders, internal teams, and external partners, it calls for strong collaboration, stakeholder handling, and the ability to deliver work within agreed scope, timelines, and budgets.
Key responsibilities
- Help shape and roll out Epworth’s volunteer strategy so it aligns with the organisation’s vision, mission, and wider strategic direction.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment, engagement, retention, and recognition initiatives in line with organisational needs.
- Contribute to the review and ongoing refinement of volunteer policies and processes, including training, capability building, programme assessment, feedback gathering, and improvements to volunteer-led services.
- Support the implementation of volunteer risk controls and business continuity arrangements.
- Use digital tools and IT systems to manage volunteer records, perform data analysis, and measure impact.
- Support relationships with social service agencies, community partners, corporate organisations, and government bodies to strengthen volunteer involvement.
- Track developments and emerging practices in volunteer management and turn those insights into fresh, effective engagement approaches.
- Coordinate and support training programmes that build volunteer capability and improve engagement and retention.
- Work with all departments to coordinate volunteer requirements and contributions.
- Compile statistics and handle administrative tasks as needed.
- Partner with the Media & Communications and Donor Management teams to support outreach and fundraising efforts such as events and engagement sessions.
Candidate profile
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mass Communication, Business, Social Sciences, or a related field, along with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Previous experience in volunteer management is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of the social service and/or non-profit sector.
- Genuine interest in community-focused work.
- Self-driven, with the flexibility to work outside normal office hours on occasion.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
- A collaborative team player.
- Strong writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Good project management, planning, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Confidence in engaging stakeholders at different levels and strong corporate pitching ability.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, adaptability, and the ability to work well under tight deadlines.
