Role overview
The Department of Health, Tasmania is looking for a committed Volunteer and Community Responder Support Officer to provide statewide administrative and coordination support for Ambulance Tasmania volunteers and the GoodSAM community responder program. Reporting to the Manager of Community Responders and Volunteers, this position works closely with the three regional Volunteer and Responder Team Leaders.
This role plays an important part in maintaining service standards and strengthening the volunteer and community responder workforce that supports frontline service delivery and community resilience.
Key purpose of the role
The successful candidate will deliver specialised administrative and operational support across volunteer and community responder activities. This includes helping with recruitment, onboarding, coordination, retention, and ongoing support for Volunteer Ambulance Officers, GoodSAM Community Responders, and the GoodSAM AED Registry.
The position operates within established policies, systems, and procedures, with responsibility to exercise sound judgement within scope, follow defined processes, and refer sensitive or complex matters to the appropriate person while protecting confidentiality.
Main duties
- Serve as the initial contact for queries about volunteers, volunteering, GoodSAM community responders, and routine related matters, offering clear, professional, respectful, and confidential guidance.
- Escalate complex or sensitive issues when needed and provide responses that are appropriate to the situation.
- Support the full lifecycle of Volunteer Ambulance Officers, including recruitment, onboarding, induction, records handling, and ongoing administration in line with established processes and the needs of a volunteer emergency service workforce.
- Coordinate administrative tasks for the GoodSAM Community Responder program, including screening, onboarding, communications, and routine program support.
- Work with the regional Volunteer and Responder Team Leaders to support day-to-day program operations and statewide coordination.
Employment details
This is a permanent full-time day worker position, offering 76 hours per fortnight and starting as soon as possible. The workplace location is South - Cambridge. Hours can be negotiated with the successful applicant.
For 12 months from the publication date, this selection process may also be used to fill future or similar full-time, part-time, and casual vacancies.

Some intrastate travel may be required as part of the job.
