About the Role

Join the Corporate Services Department at Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe, where you will play an essential role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards across wards, clinics, offices, and ancillary areas in line with hospital policies and infection control guidelines. This casual position requires working rotating shifts throughout the year, including early mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and public holidays, to ensure continuous service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of hospital wards, clinics, offices, and various departments.
  • Execute infection control, cytotoxic, and sterile area cleaning to prevent infection spread.
  • Collect and dispose of all waste, including contaminated materials, in designated containers.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen spaces, including equipment, utensils, floors, and walls.
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality during all tasks.
  • Carry out additional duties relevant to the role as directed.

Requirements

  • Capability to operate industrial cleaning equipment safely and effectively, with knowledge or a willingness to learn about cleaning chemicals.
  • Understanding or willingness to acquire knowledge of universal precautions, infection control, and cleaning protocols for cytotoxic and sterile zones.
  • Commitment to participating in quality improvement initiatives and training.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven aptitude for teamwork and contributing positively to team dynamics.

Employment Details

This fixed-term casual position is available immediately and lasts until 31 January 2028. Working hours are negotiable based on service needs. The role’s schedule includes a rotating shift roster assigned throughout all days of the week and public holidays.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary ranges from $59,668 to $65,185 annually on a pro-rata basis, with an additional 12% employer superannuation contribution as per the Public Sector Union Wages Agreement 2025. Eligible employees can benefit from salary packaging options including living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 for meal entertainment in each FBT year.
