About the role
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is inviting expressions of interest from organised, compassionate people who want to support victims of crime through the criminal justice journey. This position gives you the chance to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of victims of violent offences while supporting the delivery of justice in Queensland.
ODPP plays an important role in Queensland’s justice system by representing the State in criminal prosecutions across major courts, including the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court and others. The work involves complex and sensitive matters that require professionalism, care and integrity.
Opportunity details
This is a standing recruitment pool used to fill a range of permanent and fixed-term temporary vacancies within Victim Liaison Services at ODPP. Initial appointments are for three to six months, with the potential for extension. Applications will stay active for 12 months and will be assessed as vacancies arise. Submitting an application to this pool does not guarantee employment. If shortlisted, candidates will be contacted by ODPP for interview.
Key duties
- Reach out to victims of violent crime, explain ODPP processes in plain language, and direct them to suitable support services.
- Keep precise and up-to-date records of communications, court applications, and court outcomes.
- Communicate regularly with victims, police, legal professionals and court staff to support smooth case handling.
- Use an effective follow-up and tracking system to monitor matters and ensure nothing is overlooked.
- Coordinate with the Queensland Police Service, legal practitioners, court officers, government agencies, victims and their families, both face-to-face and by phone.
- Prepare statistical information and reports to assist operational and strategic planning.
- Provide administrative and operational assistance to Crown Prosecutors and Legal Officers when needed.
What you need to succeed
- Strong planning and prioritisation abilities to handle multiple demands and respond to victims’ needs effectively.
- A solid grasp of the criminal justice system and the particular needs of victims of crime.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to build productive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.
- Confidence working independently as well as contributing positively within a team.
- A professional, discreet and trustworthy approach when handling confidential and sensitive information.
