Role Overview
Based in Dublin and reporting directly to the leadership team, the SVP/VP Risk Management will enhance the team’s expertise to meet anticipated portfolio growth and increased asset management demands. The individual will serve as the lead for risk management activities and provide continuous risk oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate airline strategies and financial health via direct engagement with finance, treasury, and fleet teams, focusing especially on market and liquidity risks.
- Lead comprehensive due diligence assessments on lessees and communicate results to Senior Management.
- Oversee counterparty credit risk in line with internal frameworks and policies.
- Draft detailed credit analysis reports, offering recommendations including the use of credit risk mitigations.
- Maintain strong liaison with deal teams and airline management throughout the due diligence process.
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of the company’s internal credit rating systems.
- Analyze industry-wide economic and geopolitical trends, including currency fluctuations, fuel price trends, tourism demand, and macroeconomic forecasts from authorities such as the World Bank and IMF.
- Prepare aircraft acquisition underwriting papers for investment committee review.
- Review assumptions impacting deal net present value (NPV), such as maintenance, financing structures, taxes, and end-of-lease valuations.
- Conduct formal credit risk and Know Your Customer (KYC) audits on assigned airlines and counterparties, which include travel and onsite inspections as needed.
- Take ownership of allocated counterparties, maintain ongoing relationships, perform periodic reviews, and serve as the subject-matter expert for these entities.
- Lead cash collection efforts and negotiate restructuring for accounts under your purview.
- Independently cultivate industry knowledge globally or regionally and apply insights to risk assessment and monitoring of clients and portfolios.
- Keep comprehensive, organized records for all risk-related matters.
- Monitor the overall risk portfolio regularly and prepare reports for portfolio oversight and governance board submissions.
- Ensure adherence to internal compliance requirements.
- Perform additional risk management and business analysis tasks as assigned by regional leadership.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of an EU passport or a valid Stamp 4 visa is mandatory.
- A recognized academic degree in Finance, Risk Management, or Aviation Management.
- Proven experience in aviation, aircraft finance, banking, or credit rating agencies, especially in airline credit or equity analysis.
- Highly self-driven with excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to complete tasks independently.
- Availability for travel, occasionally on short notice, to airline locations within the designated region.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills enabling effective relationship-building with executives from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to independently assess and evaluate risks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to perform efficiently in a fast-moving environment.
- Preferred additional qualifications include MSc degrees in Aviation Management or Finance/Aviation Finance, CFA, or ACCA certifications.
- Verbal and written proficiency in Chinese is an advantage.
