Vice President of Operations, Multifamily

Position overview

This senior leadership opportunity is for a multifamily operations executive who will guide a large portfolio spread across multiple states. The role focuses on improving day-to-day performance, financial outcomes, resident experience, client relationships, and team capability while safeguarding and growing owner value.

The ideal professional brings deep multifamily experience, a track record of managing sizeable regional portfolios, and the ability to build and inspire strong teams. In this position, you will lead Regional Vice Presidents and Regional Managers and work closely with executive leadership to carry out company strategy and support expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Provide top-level leadership for a broad multifamily portfolio spanning several states.
• Improve operational effectiveness, financial results, occupancy, resident satisfaction, and asset performance across assigned markets.
• Spot and pursue growth opportunities such as new management contracts, strategic alliances, and entry into additional markets.
• Build durable relationships with ownership groups and important clients while ensuring a high level of service.
• Work with internal teams to expand market visibility and advance business development efforts.
• Manage regional budgets, financial projections, and performance tracking to support profitability and operational targets.
• Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local laws, along with company standards and industry practices.
• Put effective controls and operational protections in place to reduce financial exposure and preserve organizational integrity.
• Hire, coach, mentor, and develop strong regional leadership teams.
• Promote a workplace culture centered on accountability, teamwork, ongoing improvement, and professional development.
• Prepare executive reporting and strategic insights for senior leaders, including recommendations to strengthen portfolio outcomes and meet business goals.

Qualifications

This role calls for a bachelor's degree, with an MBA or other advanced degree preferred. Candidates should have at least 10 years of multifamily property management experience and a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple markets or regions. Success in managing large portfolios while improving operational and financial performance is essential.

Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and business planning is required, along with the ability to maintain long-term relationships with clients and ownership groups. The right candidate will bring excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, plus strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and a strategic approach. Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with competing priorities is also important.

Travel and work environment

Standard business hours apply, with flexibility needed to support operational demands, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency situations. This position requires approximately 50% to 75% travel throughout the assigned portfolio. A valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of insurance are required.
