Job description

The role

Stanley Black & Decker is looking for a forward-thinking, commercially minded Vice President of Corporate Strategy who can help shape the company’s long-term direction and strengthen its ability to thrive in a competitive environment. Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Strategy and Business Development, this leader will help design, communicate, and carry out major strategic priorities across the business.

The Enterprise Strategy function works closely with senior leadership and focuses on three core areas:

Strategic projects and initiatives

Take ownership of high-priority strategic efforts directed by the Board of Directors or the Executive Committee. This includes major transformation programs as well as enterprise and business strategy work such as market entry, growth, and portfolio strategy.

Competitive strategy and intelligence

Work with Executive Committee members to define how the company competes and to translate that thinking into actions across business units. Monitor competitor moves and performance, and maintain ongoing competitive tracking.

Strategic planning

Shape the company’s planning cadence, including long-range planning, strategic planning, and strategy reviews with the Executive Committee and/or Board of Directors.

This role may be located in Charlotte, North Carolina; New Britain, Connecticut; or Towson, Maryland. Remote locations will also be considered.

Primary accountabilities

  • Work directly with senior leaders to frame strategic questions, define the analysis approach, allocate resources, oversee execution, and present conclusions.
  • Evaluate major growth opportunities and drive complex strategic problem solving.
  • Ensure high-quality, error-free analysis by identifying the right data, directing the team’s workplan, and managing delivery.
  • Build competitive intelligence capabilities that inform market positioning and strategy development.
  • Perform financial and quantitative analysis to answer critical business questions.
  • Communicate clearly and persuasively in both verbal and written formats at senior leadership levels.
  • Lead the creation of major presentations for senior executives, Executive Committee members, and Board members.
  • Develop concise, compelling, and polished PowerPoint presentations with strong attention to accuracy.
  • Support the growth of junior team members and improve strategy-team processes.
  • Coordinate daily work across cross-functional teams spanning brands, functions, and business units.

Candidate profile

The right candidate will be collaborative, team-oriented, and energized by innovation and bold ideas.

  • Academic background in a quantitative field, with coursework in business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, or strategy; an advanced degree or MBA is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in corporate strategy, strategic planning, and project management, including 4+ years at a top-tier management consulting firm.
  • Leadership experience in a for-profit environment, ideally in a similar industry, with a proven record of building strong teams and improving productivity and collaboration.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling abilities, along with experience in market analysis and business intelligence.
  • Experience working with C-suite leaders on critical issues that affect business performance and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, critical thinking, and data-driven decision-making in a fast-changing environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, celebrate shared success, and contribute to a collaborative culture.
  • Comfortable operating both as an individual contributor and as a cross-functional team leader.

Compensation and benefits

This position offers a competitive annual salary in the range of $300,000 to $375,000. The final offer may depend on job level, location, relevant knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and applicable wage rules. Salary is only one part of the total rewards package.
