Job description

Role overview

This is a remote-first leadership opportunity based in Germany, offered through a hiring partner that handles the application flow and all subsequent steps. The role blends open-source engineering, embedded systems, and automotive-grade software delivery, with a focus on secure and dependable Linux-based solutions for industrial and automotive settings.

You will guide a distributed engineering organization, helping adapt platform technologies to meet demanding safety, security, and compliance expectations. In close partnership with product leadership, you will shape a clear technical roadmap and convert it into practical delivery plans. The role also includes representing the company across external ecosystems such as customers, partners, and standards organizations. This is a high-impact position for someone who enjoys open source, scalable systems, and building strong engineering teams in a global remote environment.

Key accountabilities

  • Set the technical direction and execution plan for automotive and industrial software programs so they stay aligned with product strategy and business priorities.
  • Lead, develop, and coach a globally distributed engineering group while maintaining strong technical oversight and consistent delivery quality.
  • Encourage the use of Linux-based and open-source technologies for automotive and industrial applications, with attention to safety and security obligations.
  • Work with product managers and other stakeholders to turn strategic goals into concrete engineering plans and delivery milestones.
  • Act as a representative in automotive and industrial forums, including standards bodies, partners, and customers.
  • Champion agile ways of working, engineering best practices, and ongoing process improvement across the organization.
  • Build and sustain an engineering culture that supports collaboration, scale, and alignment with company values.

Requirements

  • Extensive software engineering experience with strong knowledge of Linux systems, embedded development, and open-source technologies.
  • Background in the automotive or industrial sector, with familiarity with standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21434, IEC 61508, SOTIF, or ASPICE.
  • Practical coding experience in C/C++ and Python within embedded or systems-level environments.
  • Proven success in leading, mentoring, and managing engineers across distributed or global teams.
  • Solid understanding of functional safety, cybersecurity, and compliance in regulated environments.
  • Experience operating in agile teams and delivering reliable software to schedule.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, including the capacity to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.

Benefits

  • Fully remote-first working arrangement with flexibility across locations.
  • Annual learning and development budget of USD 2,000.
  • Yearly compensation review and performance-linked rewards.
  • Paid annual leave plus comprehensive parental leave support.
  • Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing and work-life balance support.
  • Opportunities for international travel to team gatherings and engineering sprints.
  • Travel-related benefits, including priority pass access for eligible global events.
  • Inclusive international culture centered on open-source innovation and engineering excellence.

Application and hiring process

This position is advertised on behalf of a partner organization, which manages all applications and the next stages of the hiring process. Applications are reviewed through an AI-assisted matching process that aims to assess candidates fairly and efficiently against the role’s core requirements. A shortlist is shared with the hiring company, and the company’s internal team handles interviews, assessments, and the final decision.

Privacy and data handling

By applying, you agree that the hiring partner may process your personal data for candidate evaluation and share relevant details with the employer under applicable data protection laws, including GDPR.
