Job Overview

This role involves engaging with customers and team members to support sales goals and complete assigned duties while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Be consistently present and punctual with a flexible schedule accommodating varied hours including nights, weekends, and overtime.
• Proactively support sales efforts by greeting customers, interacting with pets and owners, recommending products or services, and creating memorable experiences.
• Perform a variety of tasks including operating cash registers with proper cash handling, recovering merchandise, handling freight processes, completing merchandising setups and resets, assembling merchandise, conducting cleaning duties, managing pricing and markdowns, assisting customers with loading purchases, caring for live animals including cleaning and maintenance, and completing necessary documentation.
• Additional duties may be assigned by supervisors as needed.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required, though retail and pet or live animal knowledge is beneficial.
• Preferred to have a high school diploma or equivalent; however, effective reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are mandatory.
• Strong communication abilities, problem-solving skills, basic computer literacy, and interpersonal skills to handle issues ethically and with minimal conflict are valued.
• Experience or knowledge regarding pet food and products is advantageous.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work occurs mainly indoors in moderately noisy settings with hard surface floors and adequate lighting and temperature.
• Shifts vary in length, typically ranging from at least 4 hours up to over 8 hours.
• Adherence to safety policies to maintain a safe and productive workplace is essential.
• The job requires physical stamina and mobility to navigate store and outdoor areas safely, operate equipment, lift and reach merchandise (occasionally up to 50 pounds), stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and move live animals.
• Ability to read, write, count, use written and verbal communication effectively, and operate point-of-sale systems is necessary.
• Completion of all required training and certifications is required.
