About FirstPrinciples
FirstPrinciples is an innovative research organization focused on creating AI systems for scientific discovery. Our journey began with Theo, the AI Physicist, and has since expanded to include tools like Theo Conjecture for automated reasoning and Theo Collaborator to facilitate complex scientific research alongside AI. As a rapidly expanding, remote-first company, our diverse team spans Canada, the US, the UK, and other global locations, united by a curiosity about the universe and a drive to engineer systems that enhance scientific exploration.
Role Overview
We are growing swiftly with plans to double our team annually. Currently over 35 members strong, we aim to surpass 50 employees by year's end. We seek a Talent Acquisition Specialist who views recruiting as a strategic function: someone passionate about identifying extraordinary individuals, cultivating meaningful connections, and assembling a team equipped to address challenging scientific and engineering problems.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end recruiting cycle for technical roles, from sourcing candidates to securing acceptances.
- Identify and engage rare talent through innovative sourcing techniques, networking, and referral programs.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to define recruitment strategies, assess candidate quality, and elevate hiring standards continuously.
- Conduct interviews that assess not just technical skills but also candidates' curiosity, motivation, and alignment with FirstPrinciples' mission.
- Develop strong rapport with candidates, serving as an advocate and representative of the company’s vision.
- Maintain and grow talent networks to ensure ongoing access to future top candidates.
- Use recruitment data and market trends to refine hiring practices and guide decision-making.
- Champion a superb candidate experience that embodies the excellence and culture of the team.
- Participate in evolving recruitment processes, employer branding, and program development as the organization scales.
Candidate Profile
You enjoy uncovering exceptional talent and nurturing relationships with candidates and stakeholders. You thrive in fast-paced settings, adapting to changing priorities and challenges.
Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years experience in full-cycle recruiting within a high-growth tech environment or startup.
- Demonstrated success recruiting highly specialized technical talent, including AI engineers and researchers.
- Outstanding communication skills fostering trust with candidates and hiring managers.
- Intellectual curiosity and ability to engage confidently with technical professionals.
- Strong organizational skills managing multiple recruitment projects without compromising quality.
- Familiarity with modern recruiting platforms such as Ashby, Juicebox, and LinkedIn Recruiter.
- Data-driven mindset focused on continuously improving recruitment outcomes.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and rapid change typical of fast-growing companies.
- Determination to uphold high hiring standards and build top-performing teams.
- Bonus: Bachelor's degree in physics and genuine enthusiasm for AI.
