About the Role

This ongoing full-time position, based in Horsham, Victoria, involves playing a critical role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and high quality of road maintenance across the network. The Surveillance Officer is responsible for conducting audits and surveillance to verify that maintenance activities align with regulations, VRMC standards, and quality benchmarks. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to monitor routine maintenance, identify improvement areas, and support asset preservation.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out surveillance and assurance tasks to confirm compliance with regulatory standards and quality expectations for road maintenance works.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to audit routine maintenance activities and promote consistent surveillance methodologies.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance the delivery and quality of maintenance services.
  • Support effective safety and environmental practices on-site, maintaining strong adherence to OH&S and traffic management requirements.
  • Contribute to fostering a positive team culture through active knowledge sharing and teamwork.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Experience or knowledge in road network surveillance, maintenance auditing, or quality assurance within road asset management, maintenance, or infrastructure settings.
  • Understanding of the Road Management Act/Plan compliance requirements and principles related to monitoring and auditing maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety (OH&S), traffic management, and environmental standards relevant to road construction and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with asset maintenance software, systems, and databases, with competency in using tablet-based applications for field operations.
  • Detail-oriented with a collaborative mindset, committed to continuous improvement and learning.
  • Experience in civil construction or road maintenance and practical field inspection or quality assurance tasks.
  • Strong communication skills promoting teamwork and transparent knowledge exchange.
