About the Internship

This is a paid summer internship lasting 12 weeks, compensated at the Living Wage rate of $29.90 per hour. This opportunity provides practical, hands-on experience with guidance and development opportunities, working on real projects that influence the future of Tāmaki Makaurau and enhance outcomes for Auckland residents. The position focuses on managing and advancing Auckland’s stormwater infrastructure and natural waterways.

Opportunity Overview

The Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience (HWFR) department at Auckland Council focuses on the management, planning, and enhancement of stormwater systems. Collaborating closely with iwi and community stakeholders, the team aims to ensure sustainable and resilient water management across Auckland. As a Storm Readiness Delivery Intern, you will assist the team in promoting industry-leading practices and effective stormwater solutions.

Internship Role and Responsibilities

Throughout the internship, you will contribute to projects related to stormwater and flood resilience with the Storm Readiness Delivery team. These projects may include pond renewal initiatives, fish passage improvements, outfall upgrades, and pipe refurbishment tasks. Working alongside experienced project managers and engineers, you will develop practical knowledge of project execution while actively participating in enhancing Auckland's stormwater network resilience.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate possesses a strong interest in infrastructure delivery and specifically in stormwater, flood resilience, or environmental management. You should enjoy problem-solving and learning from seasoned professionals. Effective communication skills, teamwork, time management, and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications are essential. An enthusiasm for data analysis or fieldwork is advantageous, along with a readiness to undertake both office and site activities.

Applicants studying Construction Management or Project Management at the second-to-last year of a relevant bachelor's degree or enrolled in a master's program are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have at least a New Zealand Restricted Driver’s License and be eligible to work full-time in New Zealand from November 23, 2026, to February 19, 2027.
