Staff Nurse - SCBU

Job overview

This role is for a caring and competent Staff Nurse to work in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Ajman, United Arab Emirates. The position focuses on delivering safe, evidence-based, and family-centered nursing support to newborns who need specialised care, while following hospital policies and clinical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands-on nursing care to neonates needing special attention, including babies born prematurely, with low birth weight, or with medical complications.
• Track vital signs, give prescribed medicines, and assist with feeding plans through oral, tube, or intravenous routes.
• Keep nursing notes and clinical records complete, clear, and up to date.
• Support procedures such as neonatal resuscitation, phototherapy, and IV therapy.
• Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other members of the care team.
• Guide and reassure parents and family members, and encourage their participation in the baby’s care.
• Follow infection prevention measures and patient safety requirements at all times.
• Take part in ongoing learning and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications and experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
• A valid nursing license must be held.
• At least 2 years of relevant clinical experience in Neonatal, SCBU, or NICU environments is needed.
• Current BLS and NRP certifications are required.
• Strong communication skills and sound clinical judgment are expected.
• The ideal candidate should demonstrate empathy, patience, and accountability.
