Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. Responsibilities encompass independent nursing duties, administering prescribed medical treatments, and playing a leadership role within the healthcare team while coordinating patient care and discharge plans. The role requires alignment with the vision, values, and objectives of the region, facility, and unit.

Organization

The role is part of Shared Health, which leads planning and integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services in Manitoba. It also offers province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative functions across Manitoba health organizations.

Work Details

  • Full-time position with a 1.00 full-time equivalent (FTE).
  • Shift includes days, nights, and weekends with 12-hour workdays.
  • Annual base hours: 2015 hours.
  • Based at Health Sciences Centre - HSC Women's Hospital, Winnipeg.
  • Employment is in person (onsite).
  • Indefinite term commencing August 13, 2026.
  • Position covers a period of other leave.

Compensation

Eligible nurses may receive an additional $5.95 per hour pensionable salary enhancement when working full-time hours during designated six-month reporting periods between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2027.

Experience and Education

  • Up to two years of recent, relevant nursing experience is advantageous.
  • Completion of an approved Registered Nursing education program is mandatory.
  • Successful completion of post-basic relevant programs may be required.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Must maintain current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in relevant nursing professional associations, such as the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM), is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification at the Health Care Provider Level is required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for RNs and the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
  • Familiarity with Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), and regional/facility/unit policies and protocols.
  • Comprehensive nursing care knowledge relevant to NICU care.
  • Awareness of legislation including PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, WHMIS, and universal precautions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous demands in a high-pressure environment.
  • Preference for knowledge of Indigenous languages, customs, and traditions.
  • Strong teamwork skills alongside capacity to work independently.
  • Computer proficiency with software such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Physical demands include moderate to heavy physical effort.

Additional Conditions

  • This indefinite term may end with 24 hours notice should the current incumbent return.
  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check, is mandatory and the candidate bears any costs.
  • Applicants cannot hold multiple positions exceeding a 1.0 FTE employment within Shared Health.
