Role overview
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a caring, motivated and energetic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join its Outpatients team. This role sits within a friendly and supportive department where the focus is on delivering safe, compassionate and patient-centred care to people attending a variety of specialist clinics and services.
The post involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patients throughout their outpatient pathway. You will be expected to contribute to high standards of clinical care while helping patients feel informed, reassured and involved in decisions about their treatment.
This opportunity is available on a full-time or part-time basis, and the hospital has stated that flexible working requests will be considered across MKUH roles where possible.
Salary for Band 5 is £32,073 to £39,043 per year, with pro rata pay applied for part-time hours.
Key duties
You will work both independently and alongside the wider nursing team to maintain excellent standards of nursing practice, following national guidance and Trust policies, and escalating to senior colleagues when appropriate.
The role requires responsibility for all elements of patient care, including assessment, care planning, delivery and review of personalised nursing support. A central part of the job is making sure patients feel safe, supported and well informed while care is delivered in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Milton Keynes University Hospital works in partnership with the University of Buckingham as a University Teaching Hospital with a strong focus on research, education and improving patient outcomes. The Trust has a “Good” CQC rating and is investing significantly in services and infrastructure, making this a period of growth and opportunity for staff.
The hospital is a medium-sized general hospital offering a broad mix of medical and surgical services, including a busy Emergency Department, Maternity and Paediatrics. As demand rises across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, the Trust continues to expand and improve facilities to meet community needs.
Specialist services are also growing. The Trust opened a new Radiotherapy Centre in January 2025, offers neonatology, specialist surgical services and a wide range of diagnostics, and is supported by the Community Diagnostic Centre at Whitehouse Health Centre. Additional development is underway, including Oak Wards, a new ward block with two 24-bed wards, and the approved Women and Children’s Centre, which is scheduled to open by 2030.
