Healthcare Assistant - Renal Care

Role Overview

Eagle Ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children is looking for a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant with an interest in developing a career focused on renal care. The ward manages patients dealing with various renal diseases such as Acute, Chronic, and End Stage Kidney Disease, providing both live-related and Deceased Donor Renal Transplantation, and supporting patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis.

Key Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be essential in delivering a safe, secure, and healthy environment for patients. Your duties will include a mix of supervised and independent tasks, supporting the nursing staff in delivering patient care.

Professional Development

You will have access to a structured educational programme featuring specialist workbooks and a renal foundation course aimed at refining your patient care skills. This training will enable you to offer comprehensive family-centered care to children, youths, and their families. With increased experience and training, you may also assist with peritoneal and haemodialysis procedures.

Qualification Requirement

Holding a Care Certificate is mandatory for this position. Please provide detailed information about your Care Certificate, including when and where it was earned, during the application process.

Additional Information

The position requires effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team and excellent communication skills. You will operate under indirect supervision of registered nurses, working within agreed protocols and acting within your competency and training limits. Autonomy in your area of responsibility is expected, along with accountability and continuous assessment of your actions' effectiveness. You will also be expected to embody the trust's values, expected behaviours, and the NHS Compassion in Practice framework. Supervision of others may be required as part of best practice.
