Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Immunology

About the Role

The Pathology teams at University Hospitals North Tees and Hartlepool alongside South Tees Hospitals are collaborating to establish Tees Valley Pathology (TVP), delivering pathology services across multiple hospital sites including North Tees, Hartlepool, Stockton, James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. This role is within the Immunology service of the TVP network.

Applicants with varying experience levels will be considered; those with the Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) qualifications and credentials including HCPC registration and IBMS Specialist Portfolio are preferred. However, candidates who have recently qualified with HCPC registration or who are nearing qualification may be eligible for a Registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 5) level role.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed analysis of pathology specimens and deliver precise and reliable test results.
• Hold professional accountability for interpreting patient test results to aid clinical diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Provide expert knowledge and support within the specialist discipline to clinical colleagues and healthcare teams.
• Take a leadership role in ensuring daily workload targets are met efficiently through effective teamwork and communication.
• Work rotationally across all sections of the Immunology department to gain comprehensive experience.
• Assist with the integration of Immunology services into Pathology departments from staff, IT, and technology viewpoints.
• Contribute to research and development activities within the service to enhance patient care and service delivery.
• Participate in the education and mentorship of new, trainee, and support staff members.
• Adapt to work across multiple hospital sites within the University Hospitals Tees network.

Requirements

• Registered Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC registration, preferably holding an IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
• Proven experience working various shifts, including core and non-core hours within the chosen specialism.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
• Capability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrable specialist knowledge within Immunology and its application to diagnostic pathology.

Additional Information

The position may close once a sufficient number of applicants is received. Staff are expected to be flexible to work across different hospital locations.
