Role Purpose
The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily social media publishing schedule, posting content in real time, and analyzing performance metrics across all digital platforms. This role requires a focus on execution, data insights, and maximizing revenue impact by supporting ticket sales, merchandise, partnerships, and other key club initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced live event settings and helps translate digital engagement into measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the club’s social media content calendar covering various platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, BlueSky, and emerging channels.
- Coordinate scheduling and publishing in alignment with match schedules, ticketing priorities, merchandise launches, and partnership commitments.
- Provide real-time coverage during home and select away matches, team trainings, events, and community activities with live updates, scorelines, and crucial moments.
- Work closely with creative staff to receive and deploy visual content including graphics, video, and photography, ensuring timely posting according to the schedule.
- Maintain accurate and updated content across owned digital platforms like social channels, website, and app by collaborating with Communications and Marketing teams.
- Implement social campaigns focused on driving ticket sales, memberships, merchandise promotions, and special offers by utilizing platform tools to increase clicks and conversions.
- Collaborate with Ticketing and Merchandise departments to communicate priority matches, key deadlines, and featured products effectively.
- Support paid social advertising efforts by managing asset trafficking, setting up posts and boosted content, and monitoring performance in coordination with Marketing leadership.
- Coordinate with Partnership staff to deliver on digital sponsor requirements, post partner content series, and provide impression and engagement analytics.
- Analyze social media performance using reach, engagement, follower growth, click-through, and related metrics.
- Generate and maintain regular performance reports and dashboards that track progress and connect social media activities to ticketing, merchandise, and partnership goals.
- Identify trends and optimize social strategy, presenting insights and recommendations to Communications and Marketing leadership.
- Keep organized documentation of campaigns, posts, and key metrics for end-of-season analysis and sponsor reporting.
- Monitor social media interactions including comments, direct messages, and mentions; respond or redirect inquiries following club policies, especially on match days.
- Attend all home matches on site to provide comprehensive live social media coverage; travel to select away matches as needed.
- Work closely with broadcast, game operations, and communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and cross-promotion of streams, highlights, and sponsor content.
- Assist in post-match digital duties such as posting final scores, highlights, quotes, and links from Communications and creative teams.
Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years of experience in social media coordination, digital marketing, or related fields; experience in sports or live events is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of major social media platforms, publishing tools, and analytics (native or third-party analytics dashboards).
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication abilities to maintain a consistent and on-brand voice.
- Experience in compiling metrics into clear, understandable reports or dashboards for internal teams and partners.
- Comfort working with creative teams and digital assets including graphics, video, and photos; understanding platform specifications.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and match days and perform well under fast-paced conditions.
- Genuine enthusiasm for soccer, sports culture, and the Detroit community.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.
Note: This role does not require a driver’s license.
Reporting and Work Environment
The position reports to the Communications Manager and collaborates closely with communications, marketing, operations, and broadcast teams. There is no direct supervisory responsibility, though coordination with interns, freelancers, and matchday media staff may be necessary. The job primarily involves office work using standard equipment and some physical tasks such as filing and organizing documents. It requires communication and teamwork within a dynamic environment.
