The University of Toronto Scarborough’s Department of Arts, Culture and Media is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for MUZA02H3F, Introduction to Music and Health, for the Fall 2026 academic session. Course details

MUZA02H3F introduces students to the historical background, settings, and theoretical approaches connecting music with health and wellness. The course also examines how music is used in both therapeutic and non-therapeutic contexts.

Duties

The successful appointee will handle the full range of duties associated with designing and teaching a university credit course, including preparing and delivering lectures and materials, creating and grading assignments and final portfolios, calculating and submitting grades, and maintaining regular office hours.

Qualifications

A graduate degree is required, with ABD accepted, in music and health, community music, music therapy, or a closely related discipline. Prior work as a community music practitioner or arts educator is strongly preferred, along with practical experience in music-making and music facilitation connected to social wellness.

Appointment and contract notes

The role is tentative and depends on final course confirmation and enrolment levels. Positions are subject to the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. For Fall courses, any grading not completed by December 31, 2026 must still be finished after the term ends. Courses must have more than 50 students enrolled to qualify for TA hours.

Salary

The stipend for a half-course appointment for the Y, F, or S session, inclusive of vacation pay, is set under the current collective agreement. Reported rates are as follows:

• Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48
• Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term (six or more years as SL I): $10,699.22
• Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22
• Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96

If the collective agreement rates differ from the figures listed here, the collective agreement will take precedence.
