Job Overview
If you have an interest in electricity, mechanics, and hydraulics and want to contribute critically to keeping wind turbines operational, this role suits you. By joining Vestas as a Service Technician, you will apply your electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic expertise while supporting the global shift toward renewable energy. Work Environment
- Primary locations: Turitea Wind Farm and Tararua Wind Farm in the Palmerston North/Manawatu Region, New Zealand.
- This position does not involve FIFO arrangements — residence in the region is required.
- Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, with approximately one on-call weekend every 3-4 weeks.
- Annual travel days amount to about 50.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to the highest safety and environmental standards while meeting service objectives.
- Perform periodic inspections aligned with Vestas' specifications, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic component replacements and troubleshooting.
- Ensure uninterrupted turbine operation by efficiently using condition monitoring and remote control systems.
- Manage and maintain service vehicles and warehouses by ordering necessary materials, tools, and spare parts.
- Assemble and service turbine components following current standards and instructions, occasionally utilizing cranes.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- Trade certification in electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic fields coupled with a drive to enhance skills.
- Proficient computer skills for monitoring and documenting work activities.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Strong commitment to health and safety standards in workplace environments.
- Capability to climb wind turbines and perform physically demanding tasks at heights and under diverse weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel to other work sites as necessary.
- Enjoyment of teamwork and effective communication with diverse stakeholders within the field and across the business.
