Job Overview
The Tyger River Correctional Institution is seeking a Recruiting Sergeant to lead its correctional officer recruitment efforts. This critical role involves managing the entire hiring lifecycle from initial candidate engagement through to onboarding and training. The primary goal is to maintain a steady and qualified staffing pipeline that meets agency security and staffing standards.
Responsibilities
- Promptly connect with applicants, providing detailed information about job requirements and the recruitment process.
- Evaluate candidates’ qualifications and guide them through the complete application stages.
- Conduct candidate interviews, assess their fit, and arrange interviews with the Warden as needed.
- Administer all pre-employment prerequisites including testing, background investigations, and health screenings.
- Facilitate new employee orientation, supervise equipment distribution, and support initial job shadowing activities.
- Maintain accurate records of applicant progress and provide recruitment analytics to leadership.
- Work collaboratively with HR, training personnel, and institutional leadership to align recruitment efforts with staffing demands.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, with relevant experience in corrections, security, military, or law enforcement preferred.
- Eighteen months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work is required unless substituted by a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related discipline (which may replace half of the required experience).
- Must complete a basic supervisory training course within six months after appointment.
- Must successfully finish eight weeks of the SCDC Basic Training following hire.
