Senior Public Health Nutritionist

About the role

Health and Wellbeing Queensland is looking for an experienced Senior Public Health Nutritionist to lead statewide health promotion work focused on food security and public health policy. The role centres on designing, delivering, and reviewing initiatives that improve nutrition outcomes and support healthier, fairer communities across Queensland.

Working from an evidence-informed and co-design approach, you will help shape innovative, systems-based responses that strengthen health equity across a wide range of communities. You will also work with multiple stakeholders, oversee complex projects, contribute to policy development, and represent the organisation on state and regional committees.

Key responsibilities

• Use advanced public health nutrition knowledge to identify practical, evidence-based responses in a complex environment.
• Apply professional judgment and consultative methods to develop balanced recommendations for public policy settings.
• Use co-design principles and a systems-thinking approach to support community-level change.
• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate prevention strategies and initiatives while managing projects effectively.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and represent Health and Wellbeing Queensland on relevant committees and forums.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in public health nutrition, health promotion, or a closely related field.
• Ability to solve complex problems using evidence-based and consultative approaches.
• Strong understanding of co-design and systems approaches in community health work.
• Experience supporting the delivery and evaluation of projects and initiatives.
• A relevant degree or higher qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health, Human Nutrition Science, and/or Dietetics.
• Additional qualifications in Project Management and/or Indigenous Health and Wellbeing are highly regarded.
• Ability to work in a way that supports equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
