Job description

Role Overview

As a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, you will utilize your personal understanding and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs and traditions to deliver culturally safe and appropriate child protection services for children, families, and carers served by the Child Safety Service Centre in Ipswich, Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage effectively and positively with children, families, carers, and service providers (both governmental and non-governmental) to meet the cultural needs of children and families, supporting their case and cultural support plan goals.
  • Provide tailored, high-quality, culturally sensitive casework to children and families involved in tertiary child protection intervention. This includes facilitating positive family connections and reunification by leveraging your knowledge of community and cultural protocols, identifying kinship care options, advocating for culturally specific services, and supporting transition-from-care plans.
  • Collaborate closely with children, parents, families, Recognised Entities, and other stakeholders to help form and strengthen safety and support networks, ensuring connection to extended family, community, country, and culture.
  • Offer informed and high-quality cultural guidance to assist decision-making around the safety needs of children, especially in cases involving complex child protection concerns.
  • Provide cultural leadership within a multidisciplinary team to deliver thoughtful, culturally relevant family support services to vulnerable children and families.
  • Engage actively in continuous learning, professional development, and training to maintain contemporary, evidence-based practice knowledge and skills. Apply the Strengthening Families Protecting Children Framework for Practice and align with the vision of Our Way.
  • Prepare and keep detailed, quality case records according to departmental case management standards.
  • Enhance workforce cultural capability by sharing cultural advice, community insights, and awareness of culturally important processes and events.
