Job description

Role Overview

As a Senior House Officer in Emergency Medicine at Wexford General Hospital, you will join a multidisciplinary care team, contributing to diagnosing, treating, and managing patients while prioritizing their safety and well-being. This role demands active involvement in patient assessments, initiating treatment protocols, and documenting clinical findings clearly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient medical care under guidance from Consultant/Clinical Director/Employer.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients efficiently.
  • Ensure all duties uphold patient safety and welfare standards.
  • Evaluate patients upon admission and discharge, and prepare detailed clinical case reports.
  • Request and interpret diagnostic investigations to inform clinical decisions.
  • Initiate and supervise ongoing patient treatment plans.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and their families.
  • Enhance medical knowledge in diagnosis and patient management continuously.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary clinical audits, risk management, and provide required data for these initiatives.
  • Adhere to contractual commitments and participate in verification arrangements.
  • Comply with the European Working Time Directive and Irish legislation concerning working hours.
  • Cooperate fully with investigations, audits, and inquiries related to healthcare service provision.
  • Follow statutory and regulatory healthcare standards, corporate and human resources policies including Dignity at Work, Trust in Care, and Flexible Working Schemes.
  • Attend mandatory NCHD induction programs; note that induction before employment is unpaid, but paid when during employment. Intern Inductions are paid as per Department of Health scales and may involve up to 39 hours, both onsite and online, in line with national guidelines.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by supervising Consultant or Clinical Director.
  • Undergo regular performance evaluations including MET/Research assessments with designated supervisory staff.
