Job description

Position Overview

Auckland Council is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to join their Licensing and Compliance Department on a permanent full-time basis. This role involves leading complex compliance investigations that safeguard Auckland's communities, applying expertise in the Resource Management Act, Building Act, and Council Bylaws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage investigations into complex compliance issues across Auckland.
  • Evaluate breaches related to the Resource Management Act, Building Act, and Council Bylaws and decide on suitable enforcement measures.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, government agencies, and customers to resolve compliance challenges.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior Compliance Officers and assist the Team Leader with technical guidance and workload distribution.
  • Prepare thorough investigation reports and enforcement documentation while maintaining transparent communication with customers.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess at least five years of professional experience in regulatory compliance, investigations, or enforcement, preferably within local or central government or equivalent regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrate strong practical knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Building Act, and related Council Bylaws with proven investigative and enforcement skills.
  • Exhibit excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing abilities, with a talent for managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification and a full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching staff, familiarity with broader regulatory frameworks, and a dedication to continual learning and capability development.
