Job description

Role Overview

Auckland Council's Allan Brewster Leisure Centre is seeking a Recreation Team Member to join their Pools and Leisure team. This permanent, on-site role involves supporting a variety of community fitness and school holiday activities, including basketball skills coaching and preschool programs, all designed to engage young adults and youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver top-quality customer service to patrons and guests of the Centre.
  • Assist with planning and executing diverse sports and recreational programs targeted at children and young adults.
  • Maintain a safe, enjoyable, and supportive fitness environment at the Leisure Centre.
  • Support administrative and operational tasks as needed to aid Centre management.
  • Contribute to organizing and running activities such as sporting leagues and scheduled daily programs.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be passionate about sports and recreation with a readiness to interact directly with the community in a service-oriented position. Responsibility when working with children and flexibility in approach are essential. Strong communication and initiative in facilitating youth programs are desirable. A positive, energetic team player committed to excellent customer experiences is sought.

Experience with children, coaching, teaching, gymnastics, or sports like basketball and netball, or umpiring is strongly preferred. Being comfortable managing groups of children during after-school programs is important. Candidates must hold a full driver’s license, as responsibilities may include transporting children to and from schools.

While a current First Aid certificate and knowledge of health and safety protocols are beneficial, training will be provided if needed.

Employment Details

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a schedule requiring flexibility including school holidays and weekend work. Shifts may vary according to Centre requirements.
