About the team
The Alumni & Philanthropy Office shapes and delivers the university’s giving strategy through major gifts, regular giving, and philanthropic programs, while also growing alumni engagement in Australia and internationally. A key part of the work is thoughtful, strategic communication that creates compelling stories and engagement activity to strengthen long-term relationships with alumni and donors and encourage a strong culture of generosity and impact.
This senior opportunity is focused on leading communications that deepen alumni connection and increase philanthropic outcomes.
Role overview
The Senior Communications Specialist is a senior leadership position responsible for delivering modern, high-impact communications that support alumni engagement and philanthropy at Murdoch University. As a member of the Alumni & Philanthropy Leadership Team, you will guide the creation of data-informed, audience-focused strategies that use AI, digital channels, and analytics to deliver targeted campaigns with measurable impact.
Working closely with the Director, you will help develop a sophisticated, evidence-based storytelling and engagement approach that brings together alumni and donors across the world. You will also lead the development of strategic frameworks, campaign materials, and communication assets that strengthen donor relationships.
Work arrangement and pay
This is a continuous full-time position of 37.5 hours per week. The salary range is AUD 134,000 to AUD 140,000 per year, pro rata, plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

Selection criteria
- A relevant postgraduate qualification, or an equivalent background, together with substantial experience delivering strategic communication campaigns, preferably in higher education or the not-for-profit sector.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute insight-led, multi-channel campaigns across digital, social, and philanthropic platforms that produce measurable results.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing, and relationship-building capability, including the ability to advise senior leaders, alumni, donors, and a wide range of stakeholders.
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content and campaigns while balancing competing priorities and maintaining strong attention to detail.
