Safe Food Production Queensland is seeking a Senior Communications and Digital Officer to help strengthen public confidence and understanding of food safety across Queensland. In this position, you will guide strategic communication and digital content across the organisation’s website, social channels, campaigns, and publications.

The role involves translating technical food safety information into clear, practical, and easy-to-understand messaging for both the public and industry. You will support communication during recalls and emerging issues, help ensure messages stay consistent, and contribute to improving Safe Food’s digital presence and organisational reputation.

You will also lead and assist a small team to deliver high-quality communication outcomes that support public health outcomes across the state.

Key purpose of the role

This position oversees external and internal communications, digital media, content production, publishing, and marketing activities. It focuses on explaining food safety risks, recalls, and regulatory obligations in plain language, while also providing advice on high-risk and sensitive matters. The role manages campaigns, strengthens stakeholder relationships, and supervises the Communications and Projects Officer.

It is well suited to someone who can turn complex technical and regulatory material into clear messages, use digital channels effectively, and influence positive behaviour that supports safer food outcomes across Queensland.

About you

  • You can review information and data to identify the most important issues, and you help others do the same.
  • You encourage reflection, provide constructive feedback, and support ongoing performance improvement.
  • You build strong internal relationships that strengthen collaboration and service delivery across the organisation.

Role requirements

The role requires a tertiary qualification in communications, digital engagement, engagement, or a related field.

You should also bring substantial experience in communications, digital media, engagement, and marketing within a small or complex organisation, including brand management and crisis communications.
