Job description

Position Overview

This 12-month position is available at St Mary’s Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London. The role involves supporting the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department under consultant supervision while obtaining advanced expertise in tertiary menopause care by collaborating with the menopause team and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Weekly Schedule and Duties

The typical weekly schedule includes clinical sessions primarily in gynaecology outpatient departments (GOPD), menopause clinics, and general obstetrics and gynaecology with an out-of-hours on-call commitment following a 1:9 rota, which may be flexible. Key weekly activities include menopause MDT participation, administrative tasks, research and quality improvement projects (QIPP), and some theatre sessions.

  • Monday: GOPD sessions AM and PM
  • Tuesday: GOPD scan & menopause clinics in the morning; menopause clinic and research/QIPP sessions in the afternoon
  • Wednesday: Menopause clinic alternating with MDT meetings or administrative duties
  • Thursday: Gynaecology emergency clinic (GEC), on-call duties, and spontaneous miscarriage management (SMM)
  • Friday: GOPD in the morning; theatre sessions or GOPD in the afternoon

Role Focus and Responsibilities

The postholder will actively contribute to service development, collaborating closely with the Clinical Director and Lead for Quality and Safety to implement improvements in the gynaecology outpatient pathway. The goal is to enhance patient experience by reducing delays and increasing patient and GP involvement in developing new care pathways.
