Role Overview

The Screener plays a crucial role in ensuring the security and efficiency of hold baggage screening operations. This includes operating screening machines, identifying threats or prohibited items, adhering to regulations, documenting findings, cooperating with security teams, and engaging courteously with passengers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend and successfully complete all mandated regulatory training sessions.
  • Operates X-BIS (X-ray Baggage Inspection System) to analyze images and detect dangerous goods, weapons, ammunition, or prohibited articles following prescribed guidelines and SOPs.
  • Conduct physical searches and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) tests on flagged baggage.
  • Maintain exemplary proficiency in Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores to ensure accurate image interpretation.
  • Comply strictly with BCAS and DGCA aviation security mandates during baggage checks.
  • Accurately document all procedures and inspection results for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Perform routine operational checks on security equipment such as X-BIS, ETD, and CT-EDS to verify proper functionality.
  • Report equipment issues promptly and assist in maintaining operational logs.
  • Collaborate with CISF, airline personnel, and other stakeholders during physical baggage interventions.
  • Keep management informed about on-ground operations and any emergent concerns.
  • Manage time efficiently to ensure thorough baggage screening without causing operational delays.
  • Exhibit professionalism, decorum, and adherence to company policies at all times.

Qualification Requirements

  • Minimum educational requirement: High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree or equivalent is also acceptable.
  • Mandatory TSA certification; preferred certifications include AVSEC basic course cleared via BCAS, Standalone/Inline Screeners certification by BCAS, and DGR CAT 12 certification from DGCA approved centers.
  • Preference for candidates holding NCC “B” or “C” certificate.
  • Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 2 years’ experience in security screening or related airport security roles.
  • Demonstrated experience with screening equipment and knowledge of security processes is advantageous.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Vision: Visual acuity must be 20/60 or better in both eyes without corrective lenses, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with glasses/contact lenses; also requires adequate color vision.
  • Hearing: Hearing loss should be under 30 dB in each ear for frequencies below 2000 Hz as verified by audiometry.
  • Speech: Clear oral communication abilities are essential.
  • Mobility: Must be free from significant impediments that hinder crisis communication or speed.
  • Olfaction: Ability to detect odors is required for security tasks.

Behavioral and Appearance Standards

  • Security personnel must maintain respectful conduct, professional deportment, neat appearance, and sobriety while extending appropriate courtesy to the public.
