Position Overview
The Faculty of Chemistry at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Crystallography is looking to hire a Scientific Staff Member (m/f/d/x). The job advertisement was published on 22.06.2026 and carries reference number 86/2026. The role is graded at TV-L pay group 13, is permanent, and corresponds to a full-time workload (100%). The starting date is as soon as possible.

What You Will Do
- Contribute to academic teaching, especially in solid-state chemistry and crystallography, including organizing and leading seminars and practical classes, particularly the inorganic preparatory practical course (ACF).
- Support and supervise doctoral candidates, master’s students, bachelor’s students, and advanced practical trainees.
- Carry out and oversee solid-state syntheses, crystal structure analyses, and electron microscopy investigations.
- Help secure third-party funding, either together with the group leader or independently, as well as access time at major research facilities; there will also be scope to run your own projects.
- Independently manage scientific instruments such as X-ray diffractometers and equipment for measuring physical properties, for example conductivity, with a particular focus on running the scanning electron microscopy unit including sample preparation.
- Assist with the mineralogical collection to a limited extent.
What You Bring
- A completed university degree in chemistry or a related field such as materials science, physics, or mineralogy, provided it has a chemistry focus, with at least a good academic result, plus a completed doctorate or a doctorate that is close to completion.
- Strong command of the fundamentals of inorganic chemistry and advanced knowledge of solid-state chemistry and crystallography.
- Experience in scientific research and publishing; experience gained at different institutions is welcome but not mandatory.
- Good organizational skills, ability to work in a team, and confident communication in both German and English.
