Job description
Job summary
This role supports scaffold builders in putting together and taking apart wooden and temporary structures, including concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters. Work is performed according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards. Candidates at Level IV are expected to handle journeyman-level scaffold tasks with little supervision.
Primary duties
- Help erect, dismantle, inspect, and organize scaffolding materials and components.
- Load and unload scaffold parts and related equipment when needed.
- Assist with setting up hoisting systems used to lift and position scaffold pieces.
- Use ropes, harnesses, ladders, and similar access methods to reach scaffold work areas.
- Read drawings and support scaffold assembly from individual parts.
- Fasten sections together with bolts or screws.
- Check scaffold alignment vertically and horizontally using tools such as a plumb bob or level.
- Trim, cut, or drill scaffold parts for proper fit using hand and power tools.
- Select cables, pulleys, winches, and similar gear based on load size, weight, site conditions, and work timing.
- Support the assembly and installation of rigging, hoists, pulling gear, and related structural supports.
- Help build, maintain, and care for rigging equipment such as slings, tackle, and ladders.
- Choose scaffold component sizes, types, and related materials such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders according to specifications.
- Keep scaffold materials organized and in good condition.
- Follow company core values, principles, and code of conduct.
- Carry out work safely, refuse unsafe tasks, report hazards and incidents, wear required PPE, join inspections, attend prestart and safety meetings, and complete assigned training.
- Support safety improvements and bring a responsible, safety-first attitude to the job.
- Take on other field-assigned duties as required.
Qualifications
Experience levels are defined as follows:
- Level IV: 36+ months of heavy industrial scaffold experience, or other verified experience/certifications with scaffold experience.
- Level III: 24 to 35 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience.
- Level II: 12 to 23 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience.
- Level I: 0 to 11 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience.
- One year of industrial experience is also required.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand instructions and documentation.
- Personal hand tools as listed on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
- Successful completion of required safety training, including confined space, LOTO, and working at heights.
Physical demands
- Work may be carried out in all weather conditions and in temperatures that vary widely.
- Expect work at different elevations, in windy and dusty environments, and around moderate to high noise.
- The site will include vehicles, equipment, materials, communications gear, and tools of various sizes.
- Must be able to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
- Safety-approved body harnesses are required when working at 4 feet or above.
- Work involves frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
- Must be able to communicate by talking and hearing.
- Hands and arms will be used to signal and to grasp, hold, turn, push, and pull materials, controls, and tools.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 25 lbs.
- Good vision is needed for near and far focus, color recognition, depth perception, and peripheral awareness.
