Job description
Job summary
This role supports scaffold builders in putting together and taking down wooden and temporary support structures, including concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters. Work is completed from sketches, blueprints, or company standards. The position is classified as Level IV, meaning the worker should be able to handle journeyman-level scaffold tasks with little supervision.
Primary duties
- Help erect, dismantle, inspect, and organize scaffolding materials and parts as needed.
- Load and unload scaffold components and related equipment.
- Assist in setting up hoisting systems used to lift and position scaffold parts.
- Use ladders, ropes, and harnesses to reach scaffold work areas safely.
- Read drawings and assemble scaffold systems from individual parts.
- Fasten scaffold sections together using bolts or screws.
- Check vertical and horizontal alignment with tools such as plumb bobs, levels, and similar instruments.
- Cut, trim, and drill scaffold materials using hand and power tools to achieve the proper fit.
- Select cables, pulleys, winches, and similar gear based on load size, weight, site conditions, and schedule.
- Support the assembly and installation of rigging, hoists, pulling gear, and related structures with hand and power tools.
- Help fabricate and maintain rigging items such as slings, tackle, and ladders.
- Choose appropriate scaffold sizes, types, and related materials, including supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
- Keep scaffold materials organized and maintained in proper condition.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by field supervision.

- Contribute safety ideas, attend pre-start and safety meetings, and participate actively.
- Use a mature, safety-first mindset at all times.
Qualifications
The role is open across multiple scaffold experience levels:
- Level IV: 36+ months of heavy industrial scaffold experience, or other verified scaffold-related experience/certifications.
- Level III: 24 to 35 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience.
- Level II: 12 to 23 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience.
- Level I: 0 to 11 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience.
- At least 1 year of industrial experience is required.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand instructions and supporting documentation.
- Own personal hand tools as required under the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
- Completion of required safety training, including Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.
Physical demands
- Work may take place outdoors in changing weather and temperatures.
- Exposure to elevated work areas, windy conditions, dust, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Site conditions may include vehicles, machinery, materials, communication gear, and tools.
- Must be able to hear bells, whistles, alarms, and other warning signals.
- Use of a safety-approved body harness is required when working at 4 feet or higher.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting are part of the job.
- Need the ability to speak and hear clearly for communication.
- Hands and arms will be used to signal, grasp, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, controls, and tools.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Vision requirements include near and far focus, color recognition, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
