Role Overview
The Sales Representative for the U.S. Coast Guard (Pacific) is a field-focused role centered on building strong customer relationships and delivering practical solutions, mission-ready products, and streamlined procurement support. The role covers account development, territory planning, and day-to-day customer engagement across assigned agencies and departments.
You will create and execute a sales plan and regional strategy in coordination with the Senior Director of U.S. Coast Guard Sales and Business Development. The position involves frequent direct contact with customers through visits and other communication channels, responding to requests through quotes, order creation, product details, demonstrations, pricing, and general support. Strong organization, time management, and a polished, service-oriented presence are essential.
Territory Focus
The coverage area includes the USCG Southwest District (California), Northwest District (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana), Oceania District (Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the broader Central and Western Pacific), and Arctic District (Alaska).
Mission and Customer Focus
Procurement support is aimed at U.S. Coast Guard teams within the districts listed above, with a primary emphasis on shore-based Civil Engineering Units such as CEU Oakland, CEU Honolulu, and CEU Juneau, as well as surface operations including U.S. Coast Guard Stations along the West Coast.
Responsibilities
- Meet and exceed quarterly revenue and profit targets, while also delivering against the annual sales goal.
- Build and sustain relationships with customers and vendors, while developing opportunities across the assigned territory and, when needed, new markets.
- Track and report the weekly pipeline of quotes, orders, and active sales opportunities.
- Work with customers to define future bid and quotation requirements for equipment and service offerings.
- Travel to customer sites and industry events such as symposiums, conferences, trade shows, exhibitions, and vendor ride-alongs to grow sales opportunities.
- Gather and share competitive and market intelligence, including opportunities and risks, with the company.
- Prepare pricing, contract or credit terms, warranty details, and expected delivery timelines.
- Use internal CRM and ERP tools to process quotes and orders efficiently.
- Support inside sales with quote entry and help identify suitable funding opportunities.
- Suggest products that align with customer needs and preferences.
- Handle administrative work such as reporting, recordkeeping, and timely expense submissions.
- Partner with customer stakeholders on product development, enhancements, and modifications that improve performance.
- Accurately process quote requests received in writing, electronically, or by phone.
- Develop marketing approaches that generate leads for new contacts within the current region.
- Work in a coordinated inside/outside sales model that supports territory strategy, vendor relationships, and dealer-of-record responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with managers, coworkers, customers, subcontractors, vendors, business partners, and suppliers.
- Own the customer sales cycle from initial contact through completion.
- Keep a Google Calendar updated with calls, travel, and pipeline-related activities.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a sales representative.
- Working knowledge of government sales and federal contracting.
- Background with the Department of Defense, military, federal agencies, the U.S. Coast Guard, and/or law enforcement is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
- Strong negotiation capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance, if needed.
- Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of sales experience, or 5 years of industry experience in lieu of a degree.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Salesforce, and internet research tools.
- Familiarity with NetSuite or another ERP system is an advantage.
- Typical office setting for administrative work.
- Field work includes meeting customers in varied environments, with a home office used for administrative tasks.
- Must be able to maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and positive, can-do attitude.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities and complete tasks on schedule.
