Job description
Role overview
This position is responsible for overseeing safety management within the unit. The appointee will create, roll out, and maintain a structured Unit Safety Programme and ensure that safety rules, procedures, and standards are consistently followed across all unit activities.
Key responsibilities
- Design and put in place a comprehensive Unit Safety Programme.
- Act as the keeper of the unit’s Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to make sure the unit remains aligned with current safety requirements across all functional areas.
- Act as the safety subject matter expert, ensuring staff have the required certification and safety competencies before they are assigned to specialist roles.
- Prepare and maintain risk management plans for all activities carried out by the unit.
Challenges in the role
- Building strong expertise in safety governance to manage safety matters effectively across the unit.
- Handling a heavy training load and consecutive training sessions while still ensuring safety policies are properly observed.
- Communicating safety guidance clearly to a younger audience and explaining policies and implementation requirements to different stakeholders.
Candidate profile
- Background in operations, training, or logistics management.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking ability, with the capability to assess complex information and arrive at sound decisions.
- Self-driven, adaptable, and able to work independently in a changing environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working in teams and managing stakeholders.
